I have waited far too long to not do any updates of ANY KIND for my computer including but not limited to updating plug-ins, java script, etc. When I clicked on "update plug-in" on an otherwise blank video screen, ( I wanted to view the video) I was brought to firefox info pages. I tried to follow prompts but it kept giving me the "busy" swirling circle indicating it is "still communicating with...." It was supposed to be checking with Mozilla for "plug-in status". This lasted for about 30 minutes before I aborted. I have dial-up so besides being slow for that reason, why so slow? What can I do to catch up with badly needed updates from a variety of sources? Is there a series of helpful hints as steps to follow to ensure smooth progress?

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

When I wrote my first comment above, I had already experienced the problems that I indeed encountered again when I followed the ComputerWhiz's advice. So, the info you gave me helped NONE.

To repeat myself: "When I clicked on "update plug-in" on an otherwise blank video screen, ( I wanted to view the video) I was brought to firefox info pages. I tried to follow prompts but it kept giving me the "busy" swirling circle indicating it is "still communicating with...." It was supposed to be checking with Mozilla for "plug-in status". The only difference is THIS time I let the little "busy" swirly-curser persist for 3 hours, hoping that since I have dial-up, it might be taking a longer time to communicate between computers...and giving it more time would allow info to finally make it into my screen.

No-go. I simply can not let the "communicating" swirly-cursor persist all day or something.

I am still stuck exactly where I was before.

If you can't use the Mozilla's automated web page, then you may have to go to the home page of each of your programs.
