‘I keep getting a drop down panel which says 'Thunderbird can't update to the latest version', and then tells me how to Download Thunderbird. I have followed this three times now. 'I DO HAVE the latest version 'and paid money. Can you stop this panel coming up every time?

Please post the version number currently installed. And ...

  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll to and click on "Config Editor"
  3. Paste in app.update.log and set it to "true".
  4. Restart Thunderbird.
  5. Open the Help > About dialog.
  6. Open Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console

From Error Console please copy/paste everything starting with "AUS:" into a new comment in this bug. Thanks!

Thanks for that Wayne. I got down to 6. OK, but not sure what you mean by 'please copy/paste everything starting with "AUS:" into a new comment in this bug'. There's loads of stuff starting with AUS, where do they copy and paste to? Sorry, not very computer savvy!

Are you using Avast? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1791719#c3

If not, what AV are you using?

I don't think I am using Avast, but then I don't know what an AV is in your world! (In mine it is the Authorised Version of the Bible.)

AV=AntiVirus software

You are using Windows 10. So please start windows in safe mode and see if the Thunderbird problem goes away. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
