Thunderbird refuses to accept my iCloud password and keeps prompting me that the login to server imap.mail.me.com failed?
Pretty much the title. It used to work and suddenly I get prompted to enter my password which it refuses to accept (I assume that it's my iCloud password which I also use for my webmail).
I double-checked my settings and they seem fine. Tried to remove the domain in the User Name (@me.com) as suggested online which did not help.
I do not use the apple 2-step-verification either. What am I missing?

I guess you missed the meno from iCloud that after June 15 you have to use 2 factor authentication and an app specific password.
