Folks:

I'm running FF on Xubuntu 12.04, have had this issue with having to add search engine each time FF is launched, added my name to the other people who posted about the same issue with my email address, so far no response from the devs. And, as others posted, no "restore previous session" . . . but "History" is retained, so individual sites can be brought up. And, autofill passwrods also works.

Running Ten4Fox in OSX10.4.11 on the same machine, no issues with search engine and restore previous session. Also FF is fine running in MBPro 10.6.8 & 10.9.5 . . . .

Also recent upgrade to FF in Xu 12 did not fix the problem . . . thoughts?

e.e.p.

Your chosen search engine needs to be reinstalled, or are you saying that your choice of engine is not retained?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. After re-installing the search engine about 10 times I posted about it here . . . also, the lack of "restore previous session" interrupts work flow . . . .

What search engine is taking over? See if there are any add-ons for it. Also check your Programs Folder as well.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Settings Guard for Firefox {web link} Detects and resets changes to settings that are frequently done by add-ons and application installers.

McD:

Sorry, had other biz to take care of and wasn't messing around with linux . . . no search engine "takes over" . . . there are no search engines listed in preferences and only when I add Google is there any search capacity, otherwise nothing . . . . I'll have to go through your suggestions here in a day or so . . . and post back. As I've mentioned a couple times, I have to load the search engine each time FF is launched.
