Firefox crashes before starting up
Hi. For the last several months, I have not been able to get Firefox to work on my desktop computer (a refurbished Dell Precision T1600, purchased 8 months ago, originally with Windows 7 upgraded to Windows 10).
Firefox crashes as soon as I try to open it. I never can get to a home page. Instead the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" comes up almost instantaneously saying "Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed." The latest crash report ID (as of June 19, 2016, 2:25am EST) reads "Crash ID: bp-15fa44c6-247f-4b27-b24a-ddd4b2160619." There were many before that.
Below I include as much of the "Details" related to the "crash report" as this web page allows. I guess the entirety is too long to transmit. If I should not include any of the "Details" here, please excuse me, let me know, promptly delete it for me, etc. I'm trying to include everything that might be useful to you in helping me. FWIW, I've got 32 years experience pounding on computer keyboards, and computers facilitate my work, but they are not my work. In short, I think I'm somewhere in that vast gray zone between "newbie" and "geek."

I am having no other problems on my computer. All other software and browsers are working fine, including Chrome, Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge and Vivaldi.
I believe I've tried all proposals on your page entitled "Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes." Some of your proposals involve going into safe mode, which I can't do, because I can't get into Firefox at all. I have tried holding down the Shift key while opening and that doesn't seem to change anything. I've also tried logging on as an administrator.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both using the uninstaller software Revo to clean up the dust left behind, and without Revo (just using the standard Firefox uninstaller). No dice. I've tried manually deleting every trace of a Firefox profile that I could find anywhere on my computer before reinstalling. Still no dice. Same outcome no matter what I try.
I'm fine about losing bookmarks and such as I have them backed up.
I've always liked and respected the nonprofit and volunteer aspects of Firefox. I'd remain loyal to Firefox as the nonprofit alternative if I could at least get it up and running on my computer again.
Could you help me? I'd be most grateful. Thank you.

Disable Webroot. If the problem goes away, check for updates.
See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
You can start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).
Is the problem still there?
Thank you for your very helpful response Fred.
You've identified the source of the conflict--Webroot. When I disable it, Firefox works. Since that isn't a long-term solution, I Googled ~webroot firefox crash~ and learned that this problem is quite widespread. Unfortunately, I don't see any solutions that have been published yet.
I implemented your other suggestions (updating graphics drivers etc.), but those tweaks didn't solve the problem. When Webroot's "Identity Protection" is enabled, Firefox still crashes on start up.
As all other major browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge and Vivaldi) run fine with Webroot's Identity Protection on, I would sincerely regret the need to say goodbye to Firefox if I'm forced to choose between this excellent browser and Webroot's indispensable protection.
Either way, I appreciate your help in identifying the problem. I realize you're a volunteer, and that's awesome. I'd be grateful for your further wisdom.

When you are having a problem with a program (Webroot), you should contact its support.
Hi Fred.
I beg to differ with your assessment that I'm having a problem with Webroot. I'm not. Webroot is great. It doesn't slow down my computer at all, and it gets the highest marks from PC Magazine and others for detecting and preventing against viruses and malware.
Of critical relevance in determining where "the problem" lies, all browsers other than Firefox get along fine with Webroot. So how do you conclude that Webroot is the problem?
If there's no solution to this problem, or you don't know the solution, that's OK. No one can solve every problem. But it seems wrong to pass the buck, blaming others when all the evidence points to Firefox as the problem.
Thanks for trying though.
Adam
