Firefox completely dead after 40.0.2 Update
On my Windows 10 machine, Firefox just committed suicide. It updated to the latest version (40.0.2) and now whenever and however I open it (even with safe-mode) it instantly brings up the Firefox Crash reporter.
I now simply cannot use Firefox. Looks like I'll just have to use another browser as Firefox refuses to open.

Sorry to hear about the crashes. Could you try starting in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).
Will Firefox start? If so...
(1) Could you try disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration. That's a quick workaround for severe incompatibility with your graphics card/chipset driver:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again in regular mode.
(2) Can you extract any crash report IDs? If you got the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog and submitted one or more reports, that data can help track down the cause of the problem. Please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.
Oops, didn't read carefully enough, you already tried Safe Mode.
Try using the disk-based method of getting crash report IDs described in the last section of the support article "Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)."
Also, if you use Websense security software, please see this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1078511
It looks like it's related to Kaspersky (latest version). When I turn it off completely I can open Firefox, but when Kaspersky is running Firefox just crashes when starting up.
