to-do tool missing

I'm using Firefox & up until yesterday I was using a toolbar that was part of Firefox that had an icon that was "tools" that had a sub category "to do list" that I was using extensively. As of yesterday that toolbar no longer shows on my screen. What happened to that toolbar & how do I get it back? Thank you & I'm desperate to get it back - lots of names/numbers that I need!!!

Hi Larry, can you check your Extensions list. You can open it as follows:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

First, check for updates using the "gear" button > "Check for Updates"

Allow that to complete and restart Firefox if needed using one of the links provided for that purpose above an updated extension.

Next, if your To Do list didn't come back, check toward the bottom of the extensions list for any disabled extensions that might be relevant. One common one is called ReminderFox. If you find your "to do" extension disabled, try to re-enable it.

If that didn't help, can you reply with a copy of your extensions list? One way to get a list you can paste is as follows:

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Copy text to clipboard" button

When you paste that, you will note a ton of other information starting with Important Modified Preferences. You can delete that part before submitting your post, since I suspect that isn't immediately relevant.

I forgot to mention one other thing. You can show/hide toolbars using one of the following methods, so check this first if you haven't already:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar
  • View menu > Toolbars (if you use the classic menu bar)
  • orange Firefox button > Options (if you use the compact menu)

I don't see the "gear" button & "Check for Updates." Thanks for trying to help. Larry Moore xxx-xxx-xxxx

Neither the View Menu>Toolbars or the orange Firefox button>options worked for me. Thanks for trying to help. Larry Moore xxx-xxx-xxxx

Hi Larry, maybe "gear" isn't the best word for it, but it's the button in the attached screen shot.

Is jscher2000 in today to continue our discussion as to why no tool bar & specifically no To Do List within Tools? Thanks.

Hi Larry, please do not publish your phone number on this public forum. (You can edit a post using a light to the right of it.)

Just FYI, I volunteer on this forum during breaks.

All of the extensions you had before the upgrade should still be listed. If they are all gone, that implies that your upgrade did not go smoothly.

Did you notice any other data missing, other toolbar or feature changes?

Could you check for multiple profiles? This is how you do that.

Open your current Firefox personal settings folder, also known as your Firefox profile folder, using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

In the address bar of that window, the last part should have some gibberish characters, and before that, it should say Profiles. Click the word Profiles to move up to that folder.

Do you see multiple folders here? If so, do they all have recent dates?

Please do not move any files around between these folders.

Dates of 8/5, 8/6 & 8/7.

You have 3 different folders under Profiles, all with recent dates?

You can try to start up Firefox with the other two folders and see whether one of them has your to do items.

To start up in a different profile, exit Firefox and start up the Profile Manager. The steps to do that are in this article: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. Please note that you want to select an existing profile and start it. Do not use the Create or Delete button.

If you find your old profile with your data, does it work well? If so, probably best to keep using that one. If it has problems, we may need to triage some files. But hopefully not.
