In Firefox Wife can't download a link that is in a website. Three different websites exhibit same problem. When clicking on a link, nothing happens. The sites worked normally four days ago. She switched to Edge and the links DL'ed normally.

Chosen solution

I cannot "saveLinkAs" . When I try I get garbage in the box. In any case the kb refs solved the problem. When I went to options I found that the PDF viewer was set to Save. How that came about is a mystery. When set to internal viewer the link opened satisfactory. Thanks

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Safe mode didn't solve the problem. Placed mouse over "click here" and noted a valid link at the bottom of the page but when I clicked nothing happened.

Since no one knows what site is the problem or can have a matching sample site that exhibits the same problem this will be hard for anyone to diagnosis what is the cause.

Since three sites exhibit the same problem, I feel there is a hiccup in FF so I reinstalled it. Alas, the problem did not go away.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Safe mode doesn't fix problem. Even re-installed FF. Negative. All the links are PDFs. Thought the problem might be in Acrobat Reader but AR works fine outside FF.

Can you use "Save Link As" in the right-click context menu to save the file ?
