64bit Thunderbird crashes when using "Send to -> Mail recipient" context menu option in Windows

When attempting to send a file from Windows explorer using the context menu option "Send to -> Mail recipient" (Thunderbird is the default mail program), Thunderbird crashes without protest, i.e. without even opening an error report. After starting it again, it also does not realize it was not closed normally. Composing a message and attaching the file in Thunderbird works without issue.

This issue first came up after upgrading to Thunderbird 60.0 (64-bit).

Chosen solution

Hi Wayne,

thanks for the reply. After trying out 52.9.1 (which does not experience the crash), I tried the 32-bit version of 60.0 and it does also not crash.

Thus, my problem is solved since I might as well use the 32-bit version, but this is probably of interest for the developers that the 64-bit version crashes in this scenario.

I'll mark this as solved.

Do you see the same crashes if enigmail is disabled? or for that matter any of your add-ons. (use the restart option on the help menu to disable all add-ons.

Whilst enigmail has been updated for Thunderbird 60, I understand the changes were quite significant, so it might be the source of the crash. Having said that. I have seen it occur in Windows. A crash exactly as you describe, but only on the odd occasion. Not every time.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the behavior is reproducably the same in safe mode.

tobsh,

Have you been able to gather more information?

If not, does the same crash happen if you use version 52.9.1?
