Right-clicking on my Bookmarks menu brings up grayed-out choices

Hello,

I just tried to right-click on some of the bookmarks in my menu, but the choices that came up in the context-sensitive menu were all grayed out, so I couldn't click on any of them. This was also the case with the several others I right-clicked on as well, however, if I right-click on a folder in that menu, then "Open All in Tabs" is NOT grayed out while the other options in the context-sensitive menu are.

I'd "refreshed" my Firefox browser earlier today to try and solve a possible sluggishness problem I've been experiencing, so that might(?) be (part of) the reason for this...however, even if it is, I haven't found a way to resolve it,

I also checked the Tools --> Options area and couldn't find anything there for this, too.

I've not yet tried restarting my PC after successfully refreshing Firefox (and reconfiguring/Customizing it a bit, such as by installing Extensions and showing the Title Bar), so perhaps(?) this will "self-resolve" after I do that. Still, this behavior seemed odd enough that I wanted to post this and ask for your thoughts, please.

Please note, just so you know what I have, that I'm using Windows XP SP2 with Firefox v43.0.1.

Can you please provide some insight into this as I don't recall ever experiencing it before?

Thanks so much, Bram Weiser

Chosen solution

Hi Bram, why are you running Firefox 43???

The problem could be this bug in older versions of Firefox (possibly 29-54, but I can't remember):

After you use Customize, the right-click context menu for the Bookmarks menu (the one that drops from the classic menu bar) no longer works in that window.

If you launch a new window (Ctrl+n), it works normally there, unless/until you use Customize in that window.

Thanks for responding, jscher2000.

Actually, while I'd not heard of this bug before, you might be on to something...

I force-closed Firefox because a number of windows were opened, and it was freezing up (a fairly common occurrence), and then reopened everything, after which I checked and the grayed-out menu items were "back in black", so to speak, so thank you for your solution.

...and, to answer your question, no later version will launch with WinXP SP2 on my PC, apparently (this may have something to do with how executables were made after a certain point in time, and how WinXP SP2, for one, can't launch them when I'd double-click on them).

Much appreciated, Bram
