Search Assist virus not letting Firefox update & malwarbytes & security essentials does not detect it. How can we stop this from happening?
I'm running Malwarbytes Pro which is up to date and updates automatically as does Microsoft Security Essentials which is also up to date and shows a clean slate as far as any viruses.
I get an error message from Firefox telling me to contact my internet provider because something is causing Firefox to not update and is trying to trick Firefox. Now I've got Search Assist videos randomly popping up and running on my PC and I can't delete it and it's not recognized.
I'm running Windows 7 64 version if this helps and I've got 30mb of download speed from the internet provider (Brighthouse/thru Time Warner).
How can I fix this problem and eliminate Search Assist Virus and or Malware.... Thank You

hello, please try these steps:
- reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
- afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
- finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 26: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
if possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
- Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
