My address bar won't go to the address or show were I am and the answers here to this type of problem are not simple enough for me to understand what to do .

One of the answers on this site mentions "Firefox location bar" and I guess I don't know what that is. I don't think I have Chrome, I don't know what an "add-on" is or how to find one. My son used to fix my computer for me, but he died three months ago and I am very lost. I do pretty well for a grandma, but just assume I don't know what you're talking about, and I might be able to figure it out please.

The Firefox location bar is the address bar, just another name for it.

Thank you Thunderlion! I typed in "about:config" as they said to in the answer I had found earlier on this site, but nothing happened. A warning was supposed to come up. (sigh)

Thank you Ed. I was just using the quote marks to highlight what the instructions said to do. I didn't use them when I entered about:config.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

If it works in Safe Mode or with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")
