I want my google toolbar back so I want to return to the older version of Firefox. I'm furious that it's been disabled.

This has been asked and answered repeatedly. Use compatibility reporter.

The google toolbar will I am sure be made compatible with Firefox, but until Google sort that out if you (donate ?), download, install and run the add on from this link --> compatibility reporter you should be able to continue using Google toolbar with Firefox 5.
(You may require that Add-on again with Firefox 6, depending on what action Google take)

Direct your anger about the Google Toolbar not being updated and being made compatible with Firefox 5.0 at Google. They made that program, and they are responsible for keeping it updated as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox.
