Why does Firefox still say version 4 is available for downloan after I have downloaded v 4.0.1 and it shows in the Help/about query?
I have downloaded version 4 about 5 times already. Then the next time and every time after that I get a message that says version 4 is available for download when Firefox comes up the next time. Am I not getting the program downloaded on this particular computer. I am running Windows XP, SP 3 and am using norton 360 as antivirus. /the processor is an AMD Sempron LE 1200 with 2GB of ram

Try some basic troubleshooting to begin with.
I don't know what you are talking about when you say try basic troubleshooting.
I'm sorry; maybe I wasn't clear enough. Just click the link and it will take you to a Knowledge Base article describing how to do some routine troubleshooting that might solve your problem. Basic troubleshooting

Sorry, I hadn't considered the blue as a link. I've done most of those thing except for opening Firefox in safemode, but then I never know what to do after I open anything in safemode.
Okay, thanks. When you open in safe mode, try and see if you can recreate the problem. If it happens again, then we know that the problem is with Firefox and not one of your extensions.
I restarted in safe mode and I still get the same message, " Upgrade to Firefox 4 and organize your social networks with App Tabs. "
Okay, now follow the instructions in the Uninstalling Firefox article. Then, install Firefox again. Note that this operation will not remove your user data such as bookmarks and history (that's ok).
