My default PDF program is Nitro but when I download a PDF file it fails

When I download a PDF file it comes up with the following message........ C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\FXP8560MFPD-1.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

Where/how do I find the preferences to change the association

Thank you for your help. I did find that I needed to download a plug in and once that was downloaded and the system re-booted all was fixed.
