(locking this old thread. If you have this issue then please create a new thread - c)

Not sure if its because of the plugin container update but issues began around that time. When I open firefox sometimes its frozen, all i can do is close it down and open a new window. it does not say "(not responding)" like when it crashes, i just cannot type, click bookmark or anything. in particular the site on http://forum.breakbeat.co.uk/, to post messages on there an new box opens, this also freezes in the same manner, only works again if firefox is reset, or sometimes begins to work again by itself, 10 minutes later or so....

PLEASE NOTE: this is not the usual form of crashing, or whatever the technical term is, it simply freezes, yet i can click the "x" in the corner and it instantly recognizes that. when a box opens in a site that crashes, i can still use other tabs/windows of firefox no problem, just not the site... the site is not experiencing issues, already asked them.

thanks

I have the same problem, it seems to happen on sites that use flash - you tube etc. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash however the same thing happened on another site. The only way I can close firefox is by starting task manager and closing it that way. Windows then checks for a problem and says that the plug in container for firefox has stopped working. I would appreciate any solutions, otherwise I'll roll back to the previous version as it's quite frustrating!

Oh and I am also using version 3.6.6 on Vista.

I had the problem with sites having flash video contents. Turning dom.ipc crash protection on or off seems to have no effect. Using Windows Vista Business OEM. Everything is up-to date with firefox.

I have the same problem to when i go to some sites including http://www.mjtunes.com/ the hole of Firefox freezes (buttons tool bars, menus and all) I'm not sure it has flash but it most likely does for the player.I can keep closing the window for ages until it closes but that takes ages or i can go into task manger and end Firefox which takes a little less longer. (also when i click anywhere within the window it says not responding. If i have clicked it shows two windows not responding in task manger?) The quickest way to end Firefox is to go to the processes list and find fire fox and end it, should i be doing that? After that it asks if should report the problem about plug in container or not to send. Buy the way I have an lintel Pentium II processor and little RAM if that helps.

My advice is to disable the "crash protection" and see if that solves your problems. See this KB article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins

Using Vista 64. The only difference is that Firefox will not respond at all. Even to a close command. This only started happening after the last update sometime last week. It occurs when Flash is being used to watch videos. I have to start task manager and end the Firefox Plugin Container process to close it.

Same here. Win7 64bit, Firefox 3.6.6, Flash Player 10. It all started after the last Update, few weeks ago. Firefox is freezing when loading videos (ex:youtube) and can only be stopped by killing the process in the task manager. Firefox works normal thou after killing the firefox "plugin-container.exe". It would be nice if somebody from Mozilla would pay some attention to this issue. Iulius

exactly the same problem, and i know of over 40 people experiencing the same exact problem since the update.

Is there a way of rolling back firefox to the previous version so we can use it, as it is a better browser than all others, but this is leading to a complete uninstall and goodbye forever for firefox?

Same problem here, since the update, Firefox freezes on certain sites, such as youtube or other using flash. Bummer :(

Same problem consistently happens to me on twitter and various other sites... freezes my system, often requiring a hard shut down, can't even use task manager to exit. I've made the change suggested by the-edmeister and hoping that helps.

So user of Firefox, I heard this news Plugins for Firefox pose user security at risk, but this disable Plugins for no stealing my passwords.

Extensions that stole passwords and opened gap to hacker attacks have already been taken from the extension list

Exactly the same problem on Vista.

The latest update has a memory leak. it causes your CPU to use all of its resources or close to it. Ending the process tree in task manager will stop you from having to crash firefox, but whatever application was using the plugin continer will crash, but your window will not. you can refresh the page and you should be good to go. Hopefully firefox will see this problem very soon and create a fix to the issue.

Problem is the same as others. Solution proposed by the-edmeister seems to work.

The problem. Some weeks ago, Firefox begun to freeze each time he encountered a Flash movie. I thought it was a problem with a specific web site using a Flash intro. I looked for help on Firefox bugs but found nothing of worth. So I begun using more and more Google Chrome, which was working fine.

The solution. The hint from the-edmeister, in this forum, suggesting to 'disable the crash protection' seems to have worked for me.

Thanks

Usually happens when I am on Facebook. True, I probably have too many windows and tabs open, but I don't think Flashplayer or whatever is being activated. In general, everything slows down as I continue working, sometimes screen fades in and out, Seems to help if I go to Tools and clear cache etc.

However, the entire machine freezing up and Windows saying Plugin Container not working comes on suddenly and I have no clue as to why at a particular time.

Latest Firefox, Vista Home Edition.

Same here on win7. Have to close FF with the TaskManger. It does not seem to be Flash related, FF freezes even when sites without Banner/Movie etc are open.

Using FF happily since years, but this issue is very annoying, FF is useless for me. I'm with Chrome now.

are there any solutions?

I've been having serious crash and non-responding issues since this update. The memory usage gets up to like 150,000K for the plugin-container and Firefox consumes over 400,000K and I have to close it with the task manager sometimes or I just let it sit there until it crashes or start back responding. Firefox is a great browser, just need to fix some minor issues. I'm like mbai, I've been using Firefox happily for years now, but this is making me have to use an alternative browser. Hopefully this issue will get fixed sooner than later.

Ditto, yet again - Firefox 3.6.6 and Vista Home. I've had issues on just about any site, with Firefox either freezing or slowing down to a crawl. If I bring up Task Manager and stop the plug-in container, I get the grey barred screen of death for the Adobe and then it "unlocks" and loads. I've updated Adobe to death, and this is driving me insane. Please, Mozilla, either fix it right away, or revert so we can get rid of 3.6.6!
