Installing language dictionary

James Gilmour

Thunderbird 157.0

Not a question - just a recommendation.

Wanted to install British English. Chose 'language pack' option, presuming that would include everything. But no dictionary was installed.

Tried again, choosing 'dictionary' (why two options, different files?) Correct dictionary installed.

Instructions should say "Do NOT install the language pack".

On top of https://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/language-tools/ it explains what Dictionaries and Language Packs are used for.

Installing a dictionary add-on will add a new language option to your Thunderbird spell-checker, which checks your spelling when you fill out Web forms. Language pack add-ons change the language of the entire application.

Language packs are a way to have one install of Thunderbird but be able to change the language of the UI between two or more languages. They are not used with the spell checker.

Also many of the dictionaries on https://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/language-tools/ are larger than the same language "Language Pack" to show the Language Pack cannot be a all in one thing.
