Still not working. It has crashed several times. Messages will not open.
Freezes immediately during startup?
Do you get the crash reporter? If you do, please post your crash IDs here. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_when-thunderbird-crashes
Sometimes yes, other times I get my inbox and then everything freezes, no messages will open, then sometimes it crashes.

Thanks for that detail. All of those crashes are @ OOM | small, which tend to be corrupt mail folder. But let's check first, does the problem go away if you do Help > Troubleshoot Mode? (don't permanently disable anything)
No. Exactly the same.
Two more crashes reported. Any updates on a fix?

Are you using a 32bit version of Windows?
64bit
Today, the screen ended up with a white overly and froze for hours.
Try 64 bit Thunderbird from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/esr
Sorry, I was out most of yesterday at a funeral.
I downloaded the 64 bit version. It sort of worked for a while. I wanted to leave it running for a while before I said anything. The few tabs I left open still would not load, no indication of new messages, and then I saw that it said "Moving XX messages from Inbox to Trash" or something close to that. I don't remember the last number.
It froze at that point for hours. I had to force close Firefox, so no error report. When I reopened it, everything was freezing and/or slow.
