Sudden sound problem that couldn't be solved as it used to - then found a new issue
I used to have an occasional sound problem with FF, usually felt when YT clips could not be heard any more. I mean to remember that it could be fixed (until next time) by restarting the file explorer somewhere in Task Manager - not a convincing solution but one I could live with.
Today, there's a new situation. Again, trigger was the missing YT sound in FF - not in fx Edge, and that the Task Manager trick didn't work (or maybe I restarted the file manager in the wrong tab?). Looking for a solution, I happened to see that the YT mute function in the FF tabs seems to be gone. However, other sounds are affected likewise. Also, I can't see them in Edge either. After various restarts (or maybe something else I did, instigated by the various instructions I found?), the sound is back.
However, while continuing to pursue possible solutions, I also happened to find that my browser is being 'administered by my organisation' - what ever that means (see two annexes). Who did that? I would say, this is not something I did, I would prefer to see it gone. But how? Will the other browsers (which I keep as a spare, and that I'm hardly familiar with) be likewise affected?
This is an equation with too many unknowns for my limited knowledge, are such effects known? Would there be an approved way-out for it?

I have checked

especially the message posted by lazizakhmedov1014, and do not see this to apply to me - short of a reinstall - FYI

Update:
- The mute function in the tabs has returned.
- I don't have any visible policies in my other browsers.
- I tried to rid myself of the policy in FF according to https://www.wintips.org/fix-some-settings-are-managed-by-your-organization-in-windows-update/ Trying 1 and 5 there did not do it. Before I possibly try others, I think I could use some moral support?
Update 2
Upon further attempts to find tips how to solve the 'foreign control' issue (which appears to be the one remaining), it now seems to me that creating a new profile, then deleting the corrupted one might be the best thing to do. However, I'm afraid 'just doing it' might open a new can of worms I'm not aware of exists. I would be thankful for some guidance with this enterprise to re-establish a good working order
don, have you ruled out the basics? Sound can stop for several reasons, including:
- the website has its own keyboard shortcut for muting its audio, which might have been inadvertently pressed.
- the tab has been muted in Firefox, perhaps by the accidental clicking of a tab mute button, or the pressing of ctrl+M.
- the Firefox application has become muted in either the OS sound mixer, or the sound card's own software settings.
Sorry if you have already checked these.

Your browser is being managed... Windows home or pro? If Windows Pro version, try testing in Windows Sandbox (VM) to see if you have the same issue. https://www.howtogeek.com/399290/how-to-use-windows-10s-new-sandbox-to-safely-test-apps/
What security software are you running besides MS Defender? See if this helps with . https://winaero.com/remove-your-browser-is-being-managed-by-your-organization-from-firefox/
Sound... What do you see in the mixer? see screenshot
Thanks you two.
TechHorse: Knowledge-wise, I'm not in a position to 'rule out the basics' - by which you probably mean, look for possible causes with a high degree of systematic approach. Obviously I will try to, but when symptoms get too multilayered and confusing, then I can only ask an expert for help. But, as added in 'Update 2', it seems now that only the 'foreign admin' of my PC remains to be dealt with.
jonzn4SUSE: Sound: I wouldn't know where to find this on my PC? My question is for interest only, it doesn't seem to have any more significance in the present case. Antivirus: Just the default Windows: Pro I hadn't heard about the sandbox and gave it a try. As it obviously doesn't come with FF, I downloaded it into this sandbox. And voilà - no foreign admin was visible there.
Wouldn't that mean - as already suggested in Update 2 - that all I need would be to create a new profile, then delete the present one? Is this something that someone with my limited capacities can undertake, without having to fear new problems?
I just dared and created a new profile, but the 'foreign control' problem remains unchanged.
Is someone still listening?
Sound mixer? Just right click the speaker in system tray by the time and you should see the option for the mixer.
