Latest update forces dark context menus and bookmark menus.

How do I get rid of this crap? I either select a crappy system theme and everything turns a blinding white, or go back to the theme I usually use where everything suddenly is dark. How do I remove darkmode while retaining my favorite theme? I don't want dark mode and I certainly do not want to be blinded either. There must be a useless setting added to the about:config that I can disable.

Thank you.

I thought came to mind after perusing some of the other threads. A contributor Jscher provided a helpful tip that you could also try out:

type about:config into the address bar to open up the configurator (as i call it). except the warming message that will pop up.

next search for: browser.proton.enabled

then double click over the term "true" and change it to false. then close and relaunch FF.

Surely there is a solution to this simple matter? I'm not stuck with this eyecancer for good surely?

did you use the features to customize colors via the customize toolbar?

I tried, but it forces dark/light depending on firefox's theme. I just want it looking like it did before. I don't want it dark, but I don't want it to blind me either. It's like the browser is completely unaware of the middleground the theme had before the update.

I just hate it so much when they make stupid changes that nobody asked for, and that they cannot be altered.

I hear what you are saying but unable to visualize what you had before. On my end, my browser is dark-ish as it was with the former version. But I cant recall if I colorized FF to my tastes or it adapted the color scheme from Windows.

Is the color scheme you want/need also the same as what your windows has?

I mean, we can downgrade you to a former version of FF. But i am a bit perplexed as it the old version will have the exact color scheme or you will have to do some modifications?

No, firefox and windows color schemes were always separate. My old Firefox theme was called "abstract firefox", which kept the top of my browser a nice medium blue, and context menus, bookmark menus etc were a medium/light grey with black text. Now it forces darkmode on this theme no matter what I do. I have to use a super bright theme to counter this, and it blinds me.

I am hoping for a stupid setting in about:config that can be reverted, but my searches has not yielded anything thus far.

Ahh. I get it now. I am not sure why your favority theme wont apply to the new v89. But let me try it out for you / us on my end.

Ok, i think i found your theme and installed it on my virgin FF 89. I have attached before and after pics. Is this what you are seeking? (ps: its a nice theme)

Yes, that is what it looks like to me as well ... until I click "bookmarks". Or right click somewhere to bring the context menu up. It's all darkmode in those menus. I want it gone. :/

Ah, i see. The drop down menus and context menus have black bg with white fonts.

Maybe the theme writer for the Abstract Theme might be planning an update?

I did look up the theme writer but may no longer seem to be writing themes, as he only made 2 of them.

Well it's like this with _any_ theme I try. Bright themes recieves bright menus. Medium and dark themes recieves dark mode menus. And it sucks. I cannot think of a worse update than this in all my years of using it. Huge letdown.

Very disappointed in whoever's crooked idea this was. Shame on you.

Hi

The menus are a themeable element that the artist can design into their theme. You may want to try https://color.firefox.com/ to design your own theme.

Thanks Seburo for your idea. I may help fifawof274 with designing a custom theme just for him or maybe just make it easy and help him install the previous version.  :-)

Thank you but I honestly do not have the energy nor the time to sit down and fiddle with this. I just want Firefox looking the way it did before this awful update, withing poking around with a bunch of themes.

You're very kind but firefox seems to auto-apply light/darkmode to bookmark/context menus, depending on what it deems fit, so I don't think any theme will work. :(

The color of the menu drop downs will be overwritten by a custom theme - possibly the best option for what you are looking for.

I'll take your word for this, thank you for the info.

ok fifawof274 , so what color(s) you want to drop down to be? I know you dont like the black bg with white letters on it. So what colors you want / need ?

A medium grey or blue would be nice, something easy on the eyes - as long as black text is easy to read on it. I find darkmode to be a bit too hard on my eyes, even though people praise it left and right - and pure white is also a bit harsh on my weird eyes. I guess my eyes work differently than others'.

Thank you.

i threw pastels together to make something easy on the eyes. but the little app that i used to design the theme seems to lack some extra features for designing themes.

i thought about adding a background image that would display on the top part of the browser. but it seemed when i did, the visual appearance of the browser seemed too busy.

so try this one :

I like it, thank you. Could you change the URL bar to white though, please? :D And the outline of tabs is red, perhaps it would be better with black or something to complement the rest of the theme?
