Bookmark Toolbar is missing automatically every day !!
A mess! Every day the customized toolbar disappears. And I need to customize again .... This has been going on for some versions (current 84.0.1) And even if you copy the xulstore.json folder and the entire extensions folder to the profile folder, it doesn't work. Every time I quit Firefox and open it again, I lost all the customization of the toolbar ... I've seen all the posts on support, and nothing solves me ... What can I do? One of the reasons for not abandoning Firefox is its ability to customize with extensions, etc. But everything is lost .... every day !! w10 x 64, Home

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json file.
Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:
- Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
- Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
- Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Search for the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.
It is possible that there is a problem with the places.sqlite databse and that Firefox creates a new file that causes the Bookmarks Toolbar to be reset.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder
Thanks, but my problem is not with bookmarks, but with the customization of the toolbar ...
Fred, Thanks, but for what I've been doing the toolbar configuration is not in xulstore.json but in prefs.js under the browser.uiCustomization.state section I will try to make a copy of the prefs. js, and recover, if it happens again ... I'll tell you later!! Thank you again!! it's really ... tiring!
I checked the integrity and everything seems to be in order ...

Do you still see bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder when this happens ?

I believe that preference stores changes you make using the Customize function, such as moving icons around. All of that is getting lost every time you close and restart the browser? But no other customized preferences?
At startup, a preference could be overwritten from either a user.js file or an Autoconfig file. These are not included with Firefox and would have been introduced either by you or by third party software.
Exactly ... it only loses the customizing of the toolbar ... and sometimes some configuration of the extensions (for example, of SavePageWE) I'm really intrigued .... I searched the internet and found nothing similar ... I reset Firefox, passed antivirus, antimalware ... We will see tomorrow, when I have turned off the computer and reconnected again ... Because in general I open Firefox when starting and I only disconnect when I turn off the computer in the afternoon. Today I discovered prefs.js by chance ... because I was very intrigued myself. And in fact in the prefs.js the Toolbar configuration appears. User.js and Autoconfig were not found in the Profile folder.
Thank you for your help !!

Do you use Firefox Sync? Just wondering if that could be a factor.
Today the same thing happened ... I restored "prefs.js" (I had saved a backup copy) and with that the toolbars appeared more or less ... the extension icons were not visible, and the extensions did not work.
So I closed Firefox and reopened "without extensions" I closed it again and opened it normally. And it worked !!!
Well, it's a precarious solution ... but the only one that has worked so far
What will it be? What will be the bug? I don't know ... I'm just an end user ... I'm not a programmer or an IT technician ...
Could someone who understands give me an indication of how to resolve it definitively? It's an ungrateful bug ...
I think something is removing or replacing your prefs.js file between Firefox sessions. Some clean-up programs watch for Firefox to close and then remove privacy-related data such as cookies and history, but I haven't heard of one that removes or modifies prefs.js.
Yes, truly ... But what program?
what program or what not program... it's the question
gracias for trying to help ... But we are still at ground zero ....
Does anyone else suggest doing anything ...? Is there a way to put a "sensor" to know which program does this? Or what extension?
Today. When turning on the laptop Firefox presents the same error: loss of the customization toolbar ... I restore two files: prefs.js and xulstore.json I open Firefox in safe mode. Close again. I open it again and now the entire customization of toolbar appears. And all extensions preferences (in particular "Save Page WE") Because? Mystery .... secrets of Firefox.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thankful!! Happy New Year!!
