How to stop Thunderbird from adding senders to Address Book
I need to delete all the contacts from my AddressBook and manually add only names and addresses of choice. How to I accomplish those goals?

TB only adds addresses automatically when you send a message, and the target address book is set in Tools/Options/Composition/Addressing. The default is to add the addresses to Collected Addresses. Otherwise, addresses are added manually by clicking the star next to a sender in a message.

By default Thunderbird adds addresses of OUTGOING emails to the Collected Address Book. You have to manually add them to the Personal Book
To have it stop adding outgong addresses go to..
Optiions-Composition-Addressing
uncheck the option to Automatically Add Outgoing addresses to my:
A shortcut for managing email addresses it to use the star that appears to the RIGHT side of email addresses in the header when messages are displayed.
A star that is not filled with color indicates the address is not in any of your address books. Clicking an unfilled star fills it with color and adds it to your Personal Address book. Clicking a color filled star opens the edit dialog box for that contact and you can change, edit, delete or move this contact.
I found the box to uncheck as soon as I sent the question (of course)! Thanks!
