Facebook full site's Messenger mini-windows crash (disappear and fail to reappear) when I paste any copied URL into the box. This occurs whether I retrieved the URL from the address bar or by rightclick -> Copy link location, and persists until I refresh/reload the page (also, reloading the page does not resolve the issue). I can paste URLs on the full Messenger page; I can do other chat features (e.g. upload screenshots) on either version of the chat. What's going on? I have a number of extensions installed and some modifications to the about:config page, if one of those might be causing this. Thanks!

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

None of that seemed to help, although I did restart NOT in safe mode after disabling hardware acceleration. iirc, from the last question I asked, if Safe Mode doesn't resolve things, it's an issue with my about:config page, right? I changed a few things there based on a guide from Best VPN. Or could it be something else, e.g. my extensions?

That is possible. But there are other causes as well. Safe Mode serves as a guide. If the problem remains, that tells us one thing. If not, that tells us something else.

At any rate, I tried clearing cookies, clearing cache, restarting in Safe Mode, and disabling acceleration while in Safe Mode. After that, I've only restarted FIrefox the normal way. The FB chat windows still disappear.

Here's all the about:config settings I modified, sans most of the printer ones.

If the problem remains in Firefox Safe Mode, the source may be outside of the browser.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?
