Firefox activates Ctrl button when opened
Half of the times I start up Firefox with private shortcut ("C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -private) an extra tab opens up and the Ctrl button on my keyboard is activated, which can be undone by pressing Ctrl+Shift.

Are you using a keyboard shortcut to start Firefox (with a possible CTRL modifier) or do you click a desktop icon with the mouse?
I click a desktop icon with my mouse. I just realised it only happens after the Firefox private window had opened and I mouse-click a bookmark on my bookmarks bar. When I click on a bookmark, a new tab opens and the PC thinks Ctrl is being pressed.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
This is getting really annoying; the CTRL is activated whenever I start Firefox. Why? Please help.
It was the CTRL+W or CTRL+F4 (close tab) keyboard shortcut on my mouse which activated the CTRL key when I used it to close Firefox (or any browser) with it.
Switching to Chrome though because of other bugs (e.g. bookmark icons get deleted when using ccleaner).
Modified
CCleaner is well known around here to cause problems with Firefox.
The developers of CCleaner need to fix that issue with bookmark Favicons disappearing - the Favicon storage system was revamped for Firefox 55 and evidently CCleaner hasn't been changed to be compatible with Firefox 55 and later versions.
