My eyes get sore and I get epilectic symptoms from white background. I'm not only one on this and most of people don't even know they have the same problem. I can manage 6 hours staring white but after that I will get serious twitches and heart feelings when trying to fall in sleep. I use no drugs or alcohol. I tried find such a addon last time about 2 years ago with no success. I guess it is very difficult task...because dynamic nature of web pages. Is there any addon that is capable to switch text background color to light grey on ALL occasions?

This Colour Transform addon has the ability to save your eyes from white violence. Suppose we have installed it and then opened by pressing little down arrow attached to top right corner pinkish icon. Colour Transform can also be opened from right click context menu. Steps are 1. CTRF_A.jpg : Choosing scheme. Press ONCE grey line leftmost arrow. This is all is needed colorwise. You immediately see colors tamed. 2. CTRF_B.jpg: Set it as default scheme. It is top row third icon which look like star. 3 .CTRF_C.jpg: This is the magic silver button! Top right corner pinkish button toggles tranformation for ALL pages during loading. No more need to work as web designer for every single page only to keep your eyes to yourself.

Hi   !
This add-on might be just what you are looking for:

If this is not what you want :   we will have to find something else   ......

Sorry. This is Squint Plus no good. I tested it for example with BBC home page and pics are not seen. I used obvious Global setting for background and set it light grey. But same corruption happens on the individual page tuning. I don't think that is serious addon. But there seems to be "Colour That Site" that at least can interpret my example BBC site correctly. But there is no way I start tuning every site individually. That is hell. Even more than my symptoms (...I have deduced). I get continually distracted from the thing i'm supposed to do if I give up there... So, it is still open.

As I said, NoSquint Plus is no go.Currently it cannot interpret a popular site like BBC correctly.Images are lost. As I mentioned I want to keep it simple. I repeat that found an addon called Colour That Site that is per site solution, not general. I'm looking for a general solution or educated Answer why it is not possible. The answer would be great and as well appriciated. "It" means here a consistent and reliable way to tame eye straining white background of any web site automatically to light grey. If it is not possible then there must be something wrong with HTML5 and it must be noted and corrected. Or maybe it is firefox that does something wrong with csses or dom. Firefox internal color setup of course has never worked and still does not. Just enabling it just destroys images and forms depending on page. Let's take google search box as an example:there is no google image after changing just background just a little.

Have you tried   'Userstyles'   or any of John99's suggestions   ?

The BBC is far from simple. It probably has improved over the years but uses complex styling, even so in a few seconds with just a few mouseclicks I can change the main background colour with No Squint and do not lose images.

I chose pink, it will show up. The attached thumbnails enlarge when clicked.

With complex sites you may need complex solutions. Not too sure what you mean by Firefox's internal colour setup not working. I did link to

The advice in that should be correct and work. I have globally changed background to yellow again in a few mouse clicks and attach screenshots of the BBC & this forum.

John99's last suggestion would be absolutely perfect for you:   you can choose the shade of grey you like   (and change it again to another shade). Just don't forget to click 'OK' after you've made your choice.

Which last? Did you try windows solution. As I can remember it has its problems too. My system is so different that I lose Images that others do not. I lose BBC images as I mentioned. It is true. So solution is not for me. I Really would like to know what settings give good results. I tested NoSquint again and have same result:no images no matter which way you gently change background. I use solution which i found my self. It is no good solution and I've tried all suggested here. "Coulour That Site" works on my machine.

Neither John nor I mentioned Windows solutions.
What makes you think that your system is different than mine for instance   ? What we are talking about is this: Go to the 3-bar menu > Options > Content > click on 'colors'   and choose the color you want for the background   (and don't forget to click on   OK ). Will you at least give it a try   ?

I did as I mentioned.

In fact Solution to this "eyes too sensitive for white" problem could be very simple. We need Replace Color -addon. Just replace any color that is white with light gray no matter what is the component. I need to search for such addon. There must be one.

I found Color Transform. Just checking it out.

I don't know of this will help you or not.

I am 67 yo and have a real problem with both white and black website backgrounds. The black backgrounds have been a problem for me forever it seems, but the white just started causing a problem for me when I updated from an older LCD monitor to an LED monitor about 18 months ago. The LED was just so bright in comparison to the LCD monitor I had been using for almost 6 years. I also have an issue with the extreme resolution that are considered standard these days. I can't read the damn text on too many webpages with the default resolution settings of monitors right out of the box. The Windows Display setting of Medium - 125% for "screen resolution" just ain't enough and 150% is just too damn large for the average website; and that change really doesn't hack it for me. <rant mode off>

The solution for me was to change the Brightness from 50% all the way down to 15% using the buttons on my Acer monitor that are hidden somewhere on the monitor. Mine are in the lower-right corner on the bottom edge where a user won't see them; I have to use "touch" to find them. Other monitors I had in the past sometimes had those controls with on the face at the bottom of the monitor. And many have a menu button that is of the left side when it has multiple buttons. Check the manual for your monitor or look up the manual for your monitor if you have trouble finding those buttons. Your issue sounds like a "global" problem, so going to the "source" of the problem might be a better solution than wasting your time trying to "patch" the problem via applications or website preferences.

Thank you for your kind response. I have tried to optimize the monitor. It is currently 26 inches and should be like 32 which I think is optimum for high resolution and nearfield. From monitor I turn brightness full on so the capacity is there. But then I tune it down from graphics card side from catalyst control center.I have twiddled that a alot and it works here but I suppose it is always about the match between those two, monitor and graphics card. Headwise in my case brightness contrast and quality must stay. That is what my eyes tell me. I have made some applications and on those tuned the colors the way I like. It is very easy to "just feel" when text and background dance together in perfect way when you have full control. By the way one of the worst things web color designer can do is black background and white letters. That gives me ridiculously dancing continuous afterimage between lines.
