My entire Thunderbird profiles folder is missing. When I open Thunderbird, it's as if I am installing it for the first time.

The old profiles folder is gone. A few days ago I updated Thunderbird, but I did not ask to delete anything. When I open Thunderbird now, it asks me to set up new accounts. A different named, mostly empty profiles folder has replaced what used to be there.
