After updating to the new Firefox, all of my add-ons and the profiles and data in my FormFill add-ons is erased.

The 'Old Firefox Data' folder left in the aftermath of the update appears to be quite useless.

All of the suggestions have proved equally useless.

I am weary of the unnecessary waste of time it takes to rebuild and reapply all of the data that is so needlessly deleted.

Any really useful advice would be very much appreciated.

The most effective plan would be for Mozilla to develop updates that do not cause Firefox users such problems.

What is in the "Old Firefox" folder.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.

What did you try to recover from your problem?

Do you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop? Is there only one profile in the default location for profiles?

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can go up one level to the parent folder to check for multiple profiles.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

What time stamp is appended to the name of the current profile folder?

That stamp would allow to check when the profile got created.

Some extensions save data as a pref in the prefs.js file. Others may use a special file or folder in the Firefox profile folder to store its data. You would have to check the profile folder for the presence of such a file or contact its developer for support.
