I cannot resize Firefox. I cannot find the pull-down menus and there is no way for me to quit Firefox without the task manager.

If the title bar buttons are missing, could you make sure that Firefox is not in its "full screen" view? On Windows, you should be able to exit Full Screen view using either:

  • F11 key (this switches full screen on and off)
  • slide the mouse pointer up to the top of the screen, try a couple points if necessary, and the toolbar area should roll down, then either:
    • click the "3-bar" menu button and Full Screen
    • right-click > Exit Full Screen

Does that work?

If you still need the menu bar after that, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and turn on the desired bars there:

To turn on the Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar, or other bars, click it on the list.

I'll add this for possible future reference: if Firefox's window is an irrational size in regular view (too tall, too wide, partially off the screen), it can indicate some corruption in the file which stores window location/dimension information. The usual medicine is to rename that file and let Firefox restart using default dimensions. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

If you don't have access to any of those, you can try either of these:

  • press and release these keys in sequence: Alt h t
  • type or paste firefox.exe about:support in the Windows start menu search box and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) File > Exit
  • press and release these keys in sequence: Alt f x

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.

Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?
