Will Firefox start up in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key when double-clicking the Firefox shortcut.

A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any improvement?

Can you associate this problem with an update to Firefox, or any of your plugins, or any changes to Windows itself?

If you can get Firefox running for a brief time, can you turn off all you non-essential plugins?

Open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Then, if in doubt, set them to "Never Activate". In some cases, for plugins that run globally instead of being embedded into sites, this might not be effective until the next time you exit and start Firefox up again.

One more note: this crash signature was previously associated with something called G-Filter, which runs as a service. If you haven't checked your system for malware recently, you may want to run some additional scans. Here's what I suggest:

Start in the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.

Then, you can check for less visible malware using the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. They are free and usually take a while to run a thorough scan. If they finish quickly and ask for money, you may have a different kind of infection.

Any improvement?

I tried it in Safe mode prior to posting the help request. I also ran malwarebytes and Spybot S&D and was clean.

I am trying your second suggestion and disabled all plugins. I will let you know if that works.

Thank you for the help!

So I disabled all of the plugins and that did not solve the issue. My browser continues to crash after a few minutes of using it.

Any other suggestions>?

I think next would be the malware scans.

But there are two other possible things to try which don't take very long:

Clean Reinstall

This bypasses "bad" files in Firefox's program folder:

(1) If needed, download a fresh installer for Firefox 30 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox.

(3) Rename the folder (32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does Firefox start and stay up?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\Plugins
  • C:\Program Files\OldFirefox\browser\plugins

New Profile Test

To test how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your system, you could try this three-minute experiment.

A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Do not delete anything here. Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button, choose a name like Aug12, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.

Does Firefox run and stay up? If so, does the good news continue if you exit Firefox and start it up again? If you want to continue with this profile, you can transfer over some key data. This article has details: Recovering important data from an old profile.

When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.
