There are two stages

  1. find the software and remove it (Probably using the OS Windows Control Panel)
  2. reset the Firefox settings that were messed up, ther is an add-on that often suceeeds in doing that for you

I imagine this is more adware than malware, but the file names may be deliberately obscure. Some to look for are

  • My Search Bar,
  • MyWay Speed Bar,
  • My Web Search Bar,
  • Fun Web Products Easy Installer

Remove what you can and then try the add-on if problems persist say what you have found and removed, and we may need to look deeper. (I do not think the SearchReset add-on removes/fixes user.js files)

Thanks for that, I also used the Firefox reset option and that seemed to get rid of the offending rubbish, at least I can't see it any more and things have gone back to how they wee.
