There are two stages

1. find the software and remove it (Probably using the OS Windows Control Panel)
2. reset the Firefox settings that were messed up, ther is an add-on that often suceeeds in doing that for you

I imagine this is more adware than malware, but the file names may be deliberately obscure. Some to look for are

• My Search Bar,
• MyWay Speed Bar,
• My Web Search Bar,
• Fun Web Products Easy Installer

Remove what you can and then try the add-on if problems persist say what you have found and removed, and we may need to look deeper. (I do not think the SearchReset add-on removes/fixes user.js files)

Thanks for that, I also used the Firefox reset option and that seemed to get rid of the offending rubbish, at least I can't see it any more and things have gone back to how they wee.

The FirefoxReset is simple and easy to use and a quick solution to some things. My worry is it is that it is too easy to use. Anyone using it should be

• aware of what may be lost:
  Please Read Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
  • note software extensions, Firefox add-ons are lost
• FIRST Backup the Firefox Profile, before each reset, that helps in restoring if need be (although the reset does keep one copy at present)
  • Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
