for some reason firefox defaults to Montreal and Gatineau as my location on sympatico.ca. I'm in ottawa-tried changing the defaults to Ottawa but every time I open the page it lapses back to French. Doesn't happen with Explorer so a Firefox issue....

Did you try to change the location in the upper-right corner by clicking the Edit button, typing the city name and clicking the Save button ??
Yes I tried that and also the page options at the bottom. It only saves these settings while the page is open. I will try to bookmark the page after I've changed the settings and see whether that will fix it. I usually go to hotmail and it's after I sign out that I end up on the page in French. Some weird glitch and only happens on the computer at work.
go to http://www.sympatico.ca/
- Are you seeing the page as viewed in the attached screenshot ??
No I get this
Also I checked the language preferences in my Firefox and they are set to English. Really bizarre...
Perform the suggestions mentioned in the following articles:
- Clear Cookies & Cache
- Clear the Network Cache
- Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
Check and tell if its working.

- Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Thanks for all your help-I tried everything you suggested to no avail :( The only thing I couldn't do was to update my plugins as I am not the admin on my work computer.
Here is what the plugins look like-not sure any of them would cause this:
Hi
I tried all of it and no luck but thanks for the help!
Did you open the website in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode ?? Was the website content appearing correctly (in English & correct location) while you were using Firefox Safe Mode ??

Yes I did. Still came on in French in Safe Mode. I tried everything you've suggested and I give up. Will just have to click on the "English" option in the RHS corner from now on. Somehow my computer seems to be subject to Quebec Official Language Law ;)
-> Update All your Firefox Plugins
- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
- When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)
- Restart Firefox
-> click Firefox button and click Options -> Privacy panel -> History section -> under Firefox will: select "Use Custom Settings for History"
- Remove Checkmark from:
- Always use Private Browsing mode
- Clear History when Firefox closes
- place Checkmark on:
- Accept Cookies from sites
- Accept Third-party Cookies -> under Keep Until : select They Expire -> Now click Exceptions button and click Remove button for all entries which have Status set to other than Allow -> click Close
- Click OK on Options window -> Restart Firefox
Check and tell if its working.

I guess I know what the problem is now. There seems to be some conflict between MSN run Sympatico.ca and version 9 Firefox. When I uninstalled 9 and installed Firefox 7 the problem disappeared. Unfortunately, Firefox upgrades to v 9 automatically so that is not a solution. My FF browser at home is an older version which I will not be upgrading anytime soon :) So problem figured out but not solved. Not the first time Microsoft and FF have had conflicts.
Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.
Check and tell if its working.
I have saved an english version of the page in my bookmarks and find that if I open from the bookmark and subsequently sign out of hotmail I am directed to the english version of the sympatico.ca web page. Good enough for me! Thanks for all your help!!!
