I didnt do any specific update, and I dont even have many ad-ons, the only ones i really use are ad-block plus and download statusbar... i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ad-ons, and firefox as a whole. but that didnt change anything. on my other laptop i have the same settings and versions and everything and its working fine.

You may have some corrupt files, see corrupt extension files for details of the files to remove. If one of those files is corrupt it can cause problems such as add-ons not working.

Thanks for the quick reply. I followed the steps on corrupt extension files. then restarted firefox, but im still having the same problem... when i go into firefox under tools-adons and the small window pops up where i see a list of my adons, i can uninstall them, but when i click under 'options' on any of my adons the small window freezes up, and stays frozen until i go into task manager and end the firefox process. this is just strange, i think i might try uninstalling each adon individually then reinstalling them as i need them...

A troubleshooting step is to check if the same problem happens with a new profile. Firefox stores user data in profiles, creating a new profile will confirm if the problem is with the profile.

See creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base. Once you have created the new profile, try adding a couple of add-ons to it and confirm that they are working.

If they are working you can transfer your bookmarks and passwords to the new profile. For details of what you can transfer see Transferring data to a new profile - MozillaZine Knowledge Base. As mentioned in that article, it is best not to copy the preference file or the extensions folder. Instead re-install any extensions that you want.

so i followed all the steps and created a new profile and it works with my ad-ons.

but after i created a new profile i closed firefox, and when i opened it again, it opened my old profile. and when i made my new profile i unchecked the 'dont ask every time' box, but it didnt ask me anyway.

and now when i go to the *run "firefox -P" window again, it ONLY shows that default profile.

however, i know i made the profile because after opening appdata-mozilla-firefox-profiles it shows the default profile AND my new one... so its made, and there, i just cant open it in firefox.

i think i missed a step somewhere...

wow, i figured it out!

in appdata-roaming-mozilla-firefox theres a config. settings document titled profiles, and i just opened it, then changed the name and path to my new profile and now my new profile with my now WORKING ad-ons is up!

so for now, the problem seems to be resolved. do you have any guess as to what could have caused it? I think it started right around the time i tried to use firefox sync with my iphone, i could never get it working, but thats when the problem started... im not going to try that again

ut oh... so everything was going smoothily, but i noticed that firefox was crashing more than usual, like maybe once a day. so i checked for an update, and it had 3.6.10 update, so i updated, and now im back to square one!

so im guessing updating is what caused the problem in the first place? so ill do those same steps i did last time to fix it, but then should i just avoid an update for a while?
