Prior to a few days ago I could type "Ama" into the address bar and then press Tab to start search Amazon. However, it now goes to a recent history item instead (see image). How do I fix this?

Please do to Settings -> Search -> Search shortcuts, and check if you have there (selected) Amazon search engine.

For now you can only:

  1. go to amazon.com
  2. right-click the top Search field and select Add a Keyword for this Search….
  3. save a bookmark with ama keyword.

You can also install an Amazon search plugin from *mycroftproject.com*.

Hi, why was the ability to hit Tab to search removed?

Tab navigates within the address bar drop-down. It is not a shortcut specific to searching.

You could try to "un-delete" the built-in Amazon search plugin using the "Restore Default Search Engines" button at the bottom of the Search panel on the Settings page (below the Search Shortcuts box). If that button is NOT enabled, is Amazon in the box and just in need of a check mark in the left column? If not, hmm, where did your Amazon search plugin go?

Do you have it @jscher? I think that Amazon took their toys and left.

I have it unchecked on my Settings page (it hasn't disappeared from the box).

The extension files still show as being included in the Fx123 source at https://searchfox.org/mozilla-release/source/browser/components/search/extensions (depending on your region), but the configuration file might have changed (I can't recall which one that is and searches weren't conclusive).

I think the Amazon is only available for the "US" region as amazon.com and is gone from all other locales. Test:

  • about:config => browser.search.region => "US"

You may have to restart Firefox more than once to make this stick.
