I completely rebuilt my system. Processor, MB SSD,s etc. When I reinstalled Thunderbird, and set up the connection to GMail, it started downloading messages from 2012.... Obviously, I don't need or want those messages. I've cleared the trash & spam folders at Gmail online, so I really don't know where these messages are being dredged up from. How do I tell T-Bird to only grab the last years worth of email messages?

Are you using POP3 or IMAP to access your Gmail messages in Thunderbird?

If your Gmail Inbox does not have those old messages that Thunderbird is downloading, look in the All Mail folder. That's where Gmail keeps all messages. You can use a filter in Gmail to delete them. Thunderbird will not fetch a message that does not exist on the server.
