The 'windows.old' folder shows both of files with a good size.

That windows.old folder will only be available for a couple of weeks before Windows OS auto deletes it, so please create a folder on the Desktop and call it 'TB BACKUP'. Access that 'windows.old' folder - go to the 'Roaming' folder and copy the 'Thunderbird' folder and paste it into ' TB BACKUP' folder.

I see images showing what you have in the 'windows.old' folder, but it would be good to know what you have got in the actual profile name folder.

Click 'Help' > 'More troubleshooting information' Under 'Application Basics' click on 'Open Folder' - see image as guide. Make sure all the folders and files are visible and details shown - name, date, size columns Post an image.

Well, I wish it had worked out better, as that is usually a small issue. If there were lots of addresses, and if you are so interested, you could email the abook.sqlite to me at davidtbirdhelp at gmail dot com and I will investigate its contents. That may be a waste of time, but I do make the offer. I only use that email for specific cases.

It is possible the 'windows.old' may be corrupted and may have a null value in the sqlite file causing an issue. We could go down the route of trying to fix that file but I would be using the 'Windows 7' computer as it has a good working profile.

  • Start up Win7 computer.
  • Start Thunderbird
  • Click 'Help' > 'More troubleshooting information'
  • Under 'Application Basics' click on 'Open Folder'

A window opens showing contents of profile name folder.

  • Exit Thunderbird - this is important.

If you see the following then get a copy of each file and put it onto an external drive, so it can be put onto the Windows10 computer.

  • abook.mab.bak
  • abook.sqlite
  • abook.v2.sqlite
  • Now Start Windows 10 computer
  • Start Thunderbird
  • Click 'Help' > 'More troubleshooting information'
  • Under 'Application Basics' click on 'Open Folder'

You care now looking at the contents of the 'profile name' folder.

  • Exit Thunderbird - this is important.
  • Rename 'abook.sqlite' as 'abook.sqlite.bak'
  • Rename 'abook.v2.sqlite' as 'abook.v2.sqlite.bak'
  • Access the external device that contains files copied from Windows 7 computer.
  • Copy the 'abook.sqlite' file and the 'abook.v2.sqlite' file
  • Paste them into the 'profile name' folder so replacing the ones you have just renamed.

Start Thunderbird.

I want to thank you and David both for all your help and support I appreciate this so much I was able to do it manually

That's good news. If you have a USB stick, I encourage you to copy the c:\users\yourID\appdata\roaming\thunderbird folder to it for a safe backup. I do that regularly. david - and thanks for your kind words.

I really can't assist in that. Your menu shows 'supported file types' and if the drop down option doesn't show other options, I don't know exactly how to fix on your PC. As I understand it, you're trying to send an attachment and Windows isn't allowing you to see it. Have you tried sending from the location where the file normally exists instead of from the Desktop?
