Since upgrading to Firefox 99.0.1 when I bookmark a web page into a specific folder, the URL does not appear when I open that folder. A restart of Firefox does not fix the issue.

But if I try to Bookmark the same page again, I am asked to edit it. So it must be in the folder but it is not visible! Help!

Does it work properly if you drag the tab directly to a folder in the bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl+B) instead of using the star ?

Did you check out the location of the bookmarks? In the posted image, it's Food.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Type https://accounts.firefox.com/settings<enter> in the address box. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address box.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

If any errors are reported: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional

The places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like they are corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address box.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox. The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files.

Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

I ran the integrity check as you suggested. Here is the first segment shown; > Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent > Task: expire + Database cleaned up > Task: originFrecencyStats + Recalculated origin frecency stats > Task: vacuum + Initial database size is 5120KiB + The database has been vacuumed + Final database size is 5120KiB

Does anything look amiss?

I followed your instructions Fred, renaming the two files you listed. I then restarted Firefox, and verified that new copies of the two files had been created. I then went to the web site in question and bookmarked the URL into the bookmark folder "FOOD".

It still remains hidden! Yet when I attempt to bookmark the site again, Firefox wants me to either edit or delete it.

You may have multiple folders with the same name. You can try to search for this bookmark in the sidebar or Library and use "Show in Folder" in the right-click context menu to locate this bookmark in the folder tree.

Thank you for your suggestion cor-el. But the problem occurs no matter what folder I pick to store the URL in. If I do a search for one of the missing here is what I get (see attached image).

If I open the "other bookmarks", it is empty. When do a search I see two bookmarks as shown, they both are shown in the FOOD folder. But when I open the folder, neith is visable. '

Are you using "Show in Folder" to make Firefox show the bookmarks in this folder with this folder selected in the left panel and the searched bookmark in the right panel ?

Yes, as you can see if you look closely at the screen shot I included with my last reply.

I should have added that I uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox prior to posting this problem.

I see a Dell folder and a FOOD folder in the left panel in the screenshot that look different, so I can't tell what is going on here and which is selected. It is also possible that there are multiple copies of a bookmark and search comes up with the first result found.

Thanks to everyone who tried to solve my problem. Unfortunately, it has not been resolved. Observation: I bookmarked a web site into a folder where I know it has never been booked marked before. Open folder and the book marked site is not visible. But if I do a search on the folder via Manage bookmarks, the site if shown in the folder! Totally frustrating!

I have done both a Firefox reinstall and a repair. No changed.

A quick way to check whether it is a profile problem is to create a new profile (which you can do while Firefox is closed) and bookmark the site in the new profile. If that fixes the problem, you can import data from your old profile with Firefox closed.
