Today I installed on my wife's computer version 68.2.2 over an existing version (cannot recall number). All addresses emails have disappeared. New version works, but cannot see any of her original information.

I have checked the profiles folder:

Two profiles: 0ys99ku.default-release and hrzce6bw.default

The second profile contains all of her past info ... need some guidance as to how to get the new version to recognize the older profile ... thanks John

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

you need to know what is the current default profile, so do this:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information

In 'Applications Basics' section, at the bottom you will see 'Profiles' and next to it in right column, 'about:profiles'.

  • click on 'about:profiles'

You will see the two profile names:

  • Profile: default-release

and

  • Profile: default

Each will have:

  • Default Profile: yes or no
  • Root directory
  • Local directory

Below the current default profile you will see 'Rename'.

Below the one not current default profile you will see some additional buttons. One is called 'set as default profile'.

  • If 'Profile: default' is not the current Default Profile, click on 'Set as default profile' button to set it as default.
  • Exit Thunderbird.
  • Wait a few moments and then restart Thunderbird.

the numerous emails in my email folders are disappearing. I scroll thru the emails and it shows the headers of last email that has not disappeared while I scroll thru 100s of emails and the window is blank to the next email that has not disappeared. 100s of emails are disappearing. this just started a couple weeks ago. I have not added any new soft ware. am using current TB version.

at first it was just a few folders but it is growing. virus scan = ok.

j856979 Your issue is not the same as the person who posted the question. They had performed a reinstall and lost a profile and so could not see anything. The 'Chosen Solution' was selected because it showed them how to reselect the correct profile.

You have not lost your profile, so the 'Chosen solution' will not help. When you post a comment in someone elses question you are directly sending an email to that person. It is much better to create your own question for your particular issue, so the whole community gets to see it.
