Firefox freeze on download with "cannot read source file message"
Running latest x64 en-us Firefox (currently 68.0.2) whenever I try to download a file, the save as dialog takes ages to display and a "cannot read source file" message finally appears. Running Win7 x64. I've tried all solutions I could find without results. How to find the cause and fix it ? Thanks

I did all the actions mentioned to no luck. How can I investigate and find what's happening ?
Is the problem still there?
What are you trying to download? From where?
There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Thanks for your messages. However, why propose solutions when we don't know the cause ? How can I investigate ?
BTW, safe mode doesn't change behavior

There could be several causes for the problem, your system, the website, the WWW . . . .
I m' very grateful that you help me. Thank you ! Are there any debugging tools that could point us to the cause, hence to the solution, or do we have to play then solutions' trial until fixed ? There seem to be an OS level issue with %temp%/xxx.part file
I don't know how to use them. Have you checked the links I posted? They could lead you to the solution.
>> have you checked the links ? Yes, nothing solves my issue. BTW, I also have a freeze when doing "about:preferences"
Let’s do a full clean re-install;
Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;
Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.
If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.
Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}
Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
Do Not remove any profile folders.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Thanks again for great support. I did a clean reinstall several times. No luck...
