Dear Whomever,

I am wondering if it is due to almighty Mozilla and it wondrous Firefox browser that is the reason for the annoying pop-ups that appear in the lower right corner of my screen, usually offering some type of financial garbage. I was wondering if it may be Google and/or gmail, but these pop-ups occur regardless of what website I may be on. May anyone have an answer?

hi, these may be notifications from a site you've subscribed to (unknowingly or inadvertently). you can go to the firefox options > privacy & security panel, scroll down to the permissions section and next to the notifications click on settings to remove any sites that shouldn't be able to send you push messages.

So where do I go to find Firefox Options? Thanks for a worthless answer.

Maybe check the notification permissions.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Permissions -> Notifications

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Sounds like you did not look at the article.

The "Web Push notifications in Firefox" in philipp's reply is a link to the KB article about it including where to look in Firefox for settings.

The link is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/push-notifications-firefox

Look you give minimal information on what you are seeing and people are guessing what it may be and information on that.

You asked about where Options is as if you never looked at the article so I pointed it out.

How about instead of giving "worthless replies" you actually give more information on what you are seeing. Also posting screenshots of what you are seeing as suggested may help a lot.
