The master password isn't synced, so you need to setup Firefox on each connected device to use a MP (this can be a different MP as far as I know). I don't know if still the restriction that passwords are only synced when a device is using the MP, so the passwords are secure.

The master password (MP) is used to encrypt usernames and passwords that are stored in the Password Manager. That is all it does, it doesn't prevent Firefox from starting. Firefox prompts for the MP when it is necessary to access the stored passwords like when you have saved a password for the website in the current tab. Sync also uses the Password Manager, so if you use Sync then you will be prompted for the MP every time you start Firefox.

so does the mp work on my phone as well since i have firefox on there to?
