I have tried the various solutions as found on the web but nothing works. I have absolutely no problems playing videos with Microsoft Edge, ie. no dropped frames etc. I have tried setting webm to false, changing the sessionstore.interval from 15000 to 90000 and I have installed h264ify addon. None of which has fixed the problem of dropping 40% or so of frames.

What other solutions are there?

That could stem from a bad firefox install or corrupted firefox browser. What you might have to do is completely uninstall firefox and deleting Mozilla folder and reinstall firefox new and seeing if the problem returns. But also backup any bookmarks you have so you can import them back.

Well it is definitely a bad Firefox. Microsoft Edge has no problem whatsoever playing youtube at 720@50fps using less than 25% of the cpus so I will use Edge until such time as Mozilla fix the problem. I am not convinced about a bad install, either the program links with the correct library for the codec or it does not. It does not show as using one codec when in fact it is using another. I just don't believe it. How do you stop Firefox from using vp9 which seems to be causing the problem, Edge does not support it and plays video just fine?
