Problem surfaced a few weeks ago. Firefox has been working fine for many months.

Firefox has been working fine for many month... Ok I don't know what happened few weeks ago... But you can try to restore your computer to a earlier time How to do this In w10 click on start and in search box, search 

rstrui.exe

In the window that appear on the bottom, mark "Choose a different restore point"; Click Next > Check "Show more restore points Choose a restore point before the problem occur Your documents will not be affected only the programs installed in this interval. Hope this help!
