I refreshed Firefox 4 weeks ago which took down the website and now when I click on in my browser a blank tab comes up and I have to type in fox news.

This refresh also took down my headers, my ad block and I have problem shutting down when I want to shut down my commuter. It took all my per-sets down, just completely wiped out everything. Now what???

Hi carolynda1944, a Refresh keeps some data/settings and dumps other data/settings. This article covers it in more detail: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings. If you still have the "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop, that might be useful to recover missing data.

Toolbars

If you want to restore the top menu bar (File, Edit, View...) and/or the Bookmarks Toolbar, you can do that using the Toolbars list. Either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
  • (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily.
  • in Customize mode > Toolbars button (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)

To turn on the Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Ad Blocker

You can install an ad blocking extension from the Add-ons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/

Blank Home Page

Normally Firefox will display a page similar to the new tab page with a search box, top sites from your history, and other content. Is that gone?

To choose your own home page, see: How to set the home page.

Other Issues

I don't understand this part:

I have problem shutting down when I want to shut down my commuter.

What happens? Did you try to "exit" Firefox first by using its menu?
