I have too many bookmarks(many years) which causes the Bookmark sidebar (Ctrl-B) to stall, freezeb and otherwise crash firefox. How to decrese the load"?
I see that many bookmarks are duplicated dozens of times. Deleting them one at a time is out of the question (recall that the syatem crashes when Bookmark sidebar is used).
Thank you for any tips.

Hi can stop using the side bar and mouse to the top of the browser and right click in a empty space and turn on the menu bar for more control. Can try a extension that finds duplicates : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-dupes/
Check : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Find 404 expired bookmark links : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/404-bookmarks/
You may have some bookmarks that you no longer use or use rarely. What you can do is to save your bookmarks to an HTML file. Then remove those rare bookmarks.
If you need to use one of them, open the HTML file in Firefox or a word program. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the toolbar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.
Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Export Bookmarks To HTML, and follow the prompts and save it to a HTML file.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
You can try to restore an older backup from the bookmarkbackups folder.
- Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.
- bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
