How do I set the delete period for junk and spam mail in Thunderbird?
How do I set the delete period for junk and spam mail in Thunderbird? I want to keep emails I have decided are junk for only a few days. Just long enough for me to decide that they ae junk.

Does your question mean that you don't know where to set these, or that you have set them and it doesn't do as you ask?
First of all, by and large, "Junk" is managed by Thunderbird. Any folder named "Spam" is almost certainly put there and managed by some external agency, usually an anti-spam system operated by your email provider, or possibly your own local security software. So for "Spam" folders, you need to look elsewhere for details on how to configure them.
Thunderbird's Junk folder settings can be found under Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Junk Settings.
Please note that some email provider's systems also use the "Junk" folder so be wary of their settings affecting how your junk messages are handled. This matters when your account is set to use IMAP, where this folder actually lives on the email provider's server and can be manipulated by their system.
If you wnat to rule out external systems completely, jou can configure Thunderbird to store your Junk in a location of your choice; the Local Folders Junk folder in Thunderbird will be safe from third parties.
