When checking for an update from FireFox 50.1.0 it says that it is up to date even though version 51.0 is available. Why?

I have Firefox version 50.1.0 and I know that version 51 is available. However even after performing the procedure mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version Firefox claims that it is up to date and won't update to version 51. What can be the reason for that ?

My OS: Windows 10.

P.S. I suspect having a malware on my PC - since Google Chrome sometimes opens tabs that I did not try to open with the following web address: http://dazwindowsapps.xyz/download/index.php?mn=9995

Can it be that Firefox is also affected somehow?

Sometimes the updates go out in zones. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version 51

In my zone, when I want to download and do a fresh install of FireFox, it says that the version will be 51.0 Can it be that in my zone download will be for version 51.0, and the update is still not released?

It is possible that updates have been suspended because I see candidate builds for a Firefox 51.0.1 version.

Updates to Fx 51.0 were disabled due to Geolocation issues which is said to be fixed in Fx 51.0.1 RC build2.

Thanks for the answers. I guess we will not know for sure. I reinstalled windows due to the malware I had in it, which I could not get rid off. I now downloaded Firefox from the website - the existing version is 51.0.

I have another small question, by the way: Even though I have windows 10, 64bit version, I see that the downloaded Firefox version is compiled for 32 bit.

As a normal user, I search for Firefox download in google and get to this page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?scene=2

from this page "Firefox Setup Stub 51.0.exe" will be downloaded, without letting me choose if to installed 32 or 64 bit version.

What should I do in order to use the 64 bit version? Why isn't is downloaded automatically for me, or at least why am I not given the option to choose the installation type?

Windows users are served the 32-bit Firefox on www.mozilla.org. If you were to download you will be taken to another page and if you cancel download you can see a link for www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ on bottom.

I have not looked into it lately but I have seen talk of Mozilla making a stub installer that will upon install check to see what Windows you have and perhaps some other things to see if you meet Win64 requirements. The stub installer will then install 64-bit or the 32-bit If it does not meet requirements.

The Win64 requires 64-bit Windows 7, 8(8.1), 10 and only has the 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins white listed to run in Firefox.

Support for WinXP and Vista is being dropped starting Firefox 53.0 and later on so 32-bit may be less used from then on. These users will have the option of using the Firefox 52.0 ESR then to have security and allowed stability fixes for while still.

I have win10 64 bit.

Do I need to install these flash players and Silverlight at 64 bit versions in order to be able t use the 64 bit Firefox? How do I do that?

Most these program automatically install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions on a 64 bit platform. If Firefox detects them on the about:addons plugins tab and on the about:plugins page then there is no need to take further action.

Hi,

Not sure that I understand what to do in order to move to the 64 bit version...

In the about:plugin tab I see Silverlight Plug-In version 5.1.50901.0. it does not say if this is 32 or 64 bit version. No Flash player is listed here. When searching for flash player I see many results of different flash players available - not sure which one is the needed.

Can you please give detailed instruction on the actions I should take in order to move to FireFox 64 bit? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall, or only have the needed extensions and do FireFox Update in order to move to the 64 bit version? Do I need to download a specific 64 bit version or will the default installer know to install the 64 bit version after I will have all the required extensions pre-installed on my PC?

Thanks !
