I've used Eudora 7.1.0.9 for many, many years, still on Windows XP. Always worked great until today, when I got an "unhandled encryption" message written to "the exception log." Could not fix, even after a couple of reboots, so studied Thunderbird and downloaded version 17.0.9 so that I could transfer my extensive Eudora history. Starts to work, but locks up during the import wizard, so only getting part of my Eudora info. For example, it gets through the As and Bs in the mailbox, then locks up. Any help appreciated!

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Now that I have successfully downloaded TB 17.0.9, and imported my Eudora information and history, should I update to the latest TB version?

Certainly, yes. There is no point sticking to an outdated, and unsupported version and putting yourself at risk.

Make sure to create a backup of your entire profile prior to updating though. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-tb#w_backing-up-a-profile

Will my Eudora data survive the update?

Possibly, but I have no idea where Eudora stores it's user information. If in doubt, make sure you do have a backup.

Try to disable your anti-virus software during the import.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for your suggestion. I got it to work!

It may have been your suggestion, but more likely it was my expanded patience.

This time I left the download in Eudora Import, where previously I had thought it had locked up, thinking I might need to be more patient. It took 1.5 hours, but seems to have made it all the way through my mail box folders.

The excellent MozillaZine article I was using as a guide suggested attachments would take some time, and among my 17 years of Eudora messages, there were many, many hundreds of attachments.

I wish I could solve my "unhandled encryption" message in my Eudora 7.1, but lacking that I will charge ahead in TB.

Three questions:

1. My two aborted attempts to import Eudora into TB left two partial mailbox sets (just the As and Bs alphabetically), in addition to the complete set (A-Z) which just downloaded. There may also be more duplication. Is there an easy way to delete those without messing up the full set?

2. Now that I have successfully downloaded TB 17.0.9, and imported my Eudora information and history, should I update to the latest TB version?

3. Will my Eudora data survive the update?

Again, thank you!

Bob J.

I resolved my first question by using right click and delete. Takes a while but works. I still need to know if it wise to update to the latest version.

Thanks!
