Thanks, Matt for responding.

I have a POP account. Provider is Network Solutions.

Interesting as someone reported this issue in a bug some time ago and it was also 'Network Solutions'.

What happens if you : Logon to Webmail account: Empty the 'Spam' folder Empty the Trash folder.

In Thunderbird

  • Right click on 'Junk' and select 'Empty Junk'
  • Right click on 'Junk' and select 'Compact'
  • Right click on 'Deleted' and select 'Empty Deleted'
  • Right click on 'Deleted' and select 'Compact'
  • Right click on 'Inbox' and select 'Compact'.

Then select 'GetMail'

report back on results.

In Account Settings > Server Settings for pop mail account: Do you have 'Leave messages on server' selected? Do you have 'For at most xx days' selected? Do you have 'Until I delete them' selected? Do you have 'Empty Deleted folder on exit' selected?

If the 'DELE' error message still occurs: Try this: Logon to webmail account Move all messages you have already downloaded into another folder, leaving only those you need to get downloaded.

In Thunderbird Move all messages out of 'Inbox' into other suitable folders for storage. Then try to Get Messages'

report back on results.

Thanks for replying.

I tried deleting and compacting and still got same error message. I am going to try your other suggestion about moving downloaded web mail and Tunderbird mail (19,700 emails, by the way) to different folders. Can't do it till the morning, but I will let you know as soon as I try it. Thank you.
