Firefox won't install update to Shockwave Flash player (Adobe Flash player); stops my computer from giving the window with sign in to my system (mac mini).
A purported answer to the same dilemma was gobbledegook to me. Please keep in mind that I don't know IT language. Firefox says the plugin (Shockwave Flash) has security problems and just won't install the update. I've tried numerous times to install the update and still can't. Thanks for responding if and when you do. I have the latest OS X , 10.11.5. and the latest firefox, 47.0.1.

Hi, your System Details shows that you have Flash installed, so not quite sure what's gone wrong. Perhaps you could try uninstalling/reinstalling Flash -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!
UPDATE to Shockwave won't install. I have Shockwave or wouldn't need update. Uninstalling results in being unable to reinstall, according to other users with this problem.
You say
Shockwave Flash player (Adobe Flash player); stops my computer from giving the window with sign in to my system (mac mini).
Are you able to clarify that please ?
I do not use a Mac, but I do not see how or why FlashPlayer could stop you loging in to your System. You appear to have made a post from a Mac using OS X10.11
What is it that you think Shockwave Flash Is preventing you doing ?
To troubleshoot FlashPlayer issues and check it is working
- Please read Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems
- Using the problem computer visit the Adobe test site:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
and report back with what happens.
Please post back to say wtheter that solves your problem or if you need more help.
I wrote that FIREFOX not adobe shockwave player, was preventing the install of the player update. You did not have to sleuth out what my system is; I gave my system number El Capitan 10.11.6. I assumed that Firefox was blocking the install, since in the Firefox plugin page, the only choice not greyed out was "never activate".
I have four times downloaded and attempted to install update; when the download is complete, a window should appear asking me to sign in to my hard drive (is that the word for my computer's core?) in order to install the update; a sort of permission to change things by completing the installation. That that window never appears, as it is supposed to according to all the directions on how to install the flash player update, would seem to be linked to the browser Firefox' dictum on the plugin page: "never activate". "Ask to activate" and "always activate" (the flash player) are greyed out; thus I am unable to instruct my system to activate the flash player. Yet I do use the flash player, and every time I do this a dialogue appears saying that I need to update the flash player. Which is impossible, apparently due to FIREFOX, not Shockwave Flash or Adobe Flash Player, as you misquoted me as saying.

Firefox's plugin permissions are internal settings for whether to allow web pages to use a plugin. They do not lock out installing, updating, or removing those plugins.
If Adobe's normal installation methods do not work, I suggest posting on Adobe's forums: https://forums.adobe.com/
