Okay, here's the deal. Firefox has worked splendidly until a couple of days ago when, after a PC restart, I tried to open it and suddenly found myself staring at a completely immobilized desktop while the Firefox window claimed to be loading. Basically, the window would open and start to load my three default tabs, but then proceed to lock down my desktop repeatedly for a minute or so at a time, with a few seconds of functionality between. The first few attempts at opening the program required me to hard-boot my PC, but I was eventually able to get the task manager open and kill it via that instead. Strangely, once I got task manager open, it was showing that Firefox was hardly using any resources at all. In fact, nothing appeared to be using very much of anything, yet FF was causing my PC to behave as if it was under enormous memory demand.

Initially I thought that this was common to all browsers, as I was unable to open Windows Edge, too, but I have since discovered that only FF is affected. The difficulty with Edge appears to have been a fluke.

Alright, so I've just been through the troubleshooting guide and ruled out 99.9% of the suggestions (they all require you to do something from within the FF window, which I cannot do at the moment,) I've reinstalled, restarted, etc. The only article that seemed helpful was the one about using the profile manager to see if the problem is a corrupt default profile. However, when trying to go through this process, I discovered two things: 1) FF no longer opens, period. I'll double-click, my computer will crackle for a moment (the sound the machine makes when it is 'thinking,' that is,) and then everything returns to normal. 2) I can't get the program manager to open, either. I've tried using the full command path it suggested, as well as rebooting and then trying the command path. It makes no difference; the PC just crackles for a moment and then carries on doing whatever it was before...

I would *love* to get this resolved quickly. I don't particularly like Edge's layout, and not having AdBlock+ is surprisingly annoying... Any assistance will be appreciated!

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

Awesome, the registry cleaner got it opening again, and the profile manager got it functioning. Thanks!
